Cultural Heritage
The langri pot is a cornerstone of Fijian and Pacific Island cooking, recognised by its wide, shallow shape designed to cook large quantities of food efficiently over an open fire or gas flame. Traditionally used at community gatherings, church feasts, and family celebrations, the langri pot has fed generations of Pacific families. Its broad base allows heat to spread evenly across a wide cooking surface — ideal for the slow, communal style of cooking that defines Pacific Island food culture. Bringing a langri pot into your kitchen is a direct connection to that tradition.
How to Use
- Place the pot on your stovetop, gas burner, or open fire. The wide base distributes heat evenly, so medium heat is usually sufficient.
- Add oil, coconut cream, or water first before adding ingredients to prevent sticking.
- Use the langri pot for curries, stews, dhal, rourou (taro leaves in coconut cream), and large-batch rice dishes.
- The shallow depth makes it easy to stir and serve directly from the pot — ideal for feeding a crowd.
- Use the lid to retain moisture and speed up cooking, especially for slow-cooked dishes.
- Avoid sudden temperature changes — let the pot cool gradually before washing.
Care & Storage
- Wash with warm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge after each use. Avoid steel wool or abrasive scrubbers, which can scratch the aluminium surface.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry completely before storing to prevent water spots and oxidation.
- Do not soak in water for extended periods, as prolonged exposure can dull the surface.
- Store in a dry place with the lid slightly ajar to allow air circulation and prevent moisture build-up inside the pot.
- Avoid storing acidic foods (such as tomato-based dishes) in the pot for long periods, as this can affect the aluminium over time.
