Natural Coconut Kava Bowl – Handcrafted Pacific Island Tradition

Bring the spirit of the Pacific Islands into your home with our Natural Coconut Kava Bowl, a beautifully handcrafted vessel made from sustainable coconut shell. Designed for authentic kava preparation and ceremonial serving, this traditional bowl is a must-have for kava enthusiasts and those embracing mindful rituals. With its earthy texture and organic charm, this kava bowl adds a warm, cultural touch to any gathering.

Cultural Heritage

Kava (known as yaqona in Fiji) holds a sacred place in Pacific Island culture. For centuries, kava ceremonies have been central to welcoming guests, resolving disputes, celebrating milestones, and strengthening community bonds across Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu, Samoa, and Hawaii. The coconut shell bowl — called a bilo — is the traditional vessel from which kava is drunk, passed respectfully from person to person during the ceremony. Owning an authentic coconut kava bowl connects you to this living tradition.

How to Use

  1. Prepare your kava by mixing kava powder with water in a large tanoa (kava bowl) and straining through a kava net or cloth.
  2. Ladle the prepared kava into the coconut bilo using a coconut kava spoon.
  3. To drink in the traditional way, receive the bilo with both hands, clap once, say "Bula!" (in Fijian tradition), drink the kava in one go, then clap three times and return the bowl.
  4. Rinse the bowl with clean water after each use.

Care & Storage

  • Rinse with warm water after each use — avoid soaking for extended periods as this can cause the shell to crack.
  • Do not use soap or harsh detergents, as the porous coconut shell can absorb chemicals.
  • Dry thoroughly after washing and store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
  • Occasionally rub the inside and outside with a small amount of coconut oil to keep the shell conditioned and prevent drying or cracking.
